VOSTATEK LOSES 1.3 SECONDS ON THE WINNER IN VALENCIA

28. 11. 2017
The Junior World Championship of the FIM CEV REPSOL took place on 18-19 November in Valencia, Spain, where thirteen-year-old Ondřej Vostatek again ranked among the best drivers in the European talent cup category. In the last and very balanced race of the 2017 season, Ondřej got the fourth best time and after a great battle he completed the race in tenth place with a loss of 1.3 seconds on the winner.

Ondřej Vostatek and ETG Racing only entered two training sessions on Friday during which he had to quickly prepare for the last race of the season. He took thirteenth place in the first qualification where twelve drivers from second place to thirteenth place had excellent times in the range of one second. Improvement of his position thus seemed to be a difficult task. In spite of this, Ondřej improved his time and ended up in eighth place in the second qualification with a loss of 0.7 seconds on the leader. In the two qualifications, he took eleventh place overall and started from the fourth line in the race.

Immediately after the start, the entire "cluster" of drivers rushed into the first bend in a single bunch and it was difficult for all of them to find the optimal track out of the bend. Ondřej was in about 14th place at that moment and subsequently started battling his way forward. After the second round, he was already in tenth place and was the last in the leading group of drivers. However, the red flag came up in the third round; the race was stopped and subsequently re-started.

During the re-start Ondřej started off well and got to eighth place. But the positions in the first group started mixing again from the beginning until the end of the race. Our driver was continuously in about tenth place. It was a great battle where the drivers entered the bends in groups with little space for overtaking. During the race, Ondřej made an effort to secure a better place, but he finally ended the race in an excellent tenth place after penalisation of a competitor driver. In the championship, he took twelfth place overall in the total of 31 rated drivers.

After the race, Jan Vostatek said:

"The races at the close of the season were beautiful, so we enjoyed it. In the talent cup, Ondřej ranked among the youngest drivers and I think that he gave a very stable performance during the entire season. We are thus very satisfied with the result. Ondřej made it to the finish line with the best and had the fourth best time, which is important for us. We did not want him to take incessant risks in the race so that he could start preparing for the next season as soon as possible."

"It was very difficult this time. Everyone wanted to display their skills at the end of the season. For this reason, the opponents gave it their all and simply drove excellently. I kept up with them and made an effort to drive as best as possible, but when a group of several drivers runs into a bend in front of you, you can hardly find room. I am glad that I finished the race in the top ten! I have winter preparations ahead of me, but we shall certainly return to Spain as soon as possible. At the end, I would like to thank all those who are helping me, our sponsors and partners Compos Distribution, Psi Hubík, Autoklub ČR, also my family and friends as well as my teachers in school for their support, which I highly appreciate. Thanks very much to all!" said Ondřej Vostatek in conclusion.
