ONDŘEJ VOSTATEK BATTLED FOR SIXTH PLACE IN SPAIN!

5. 10. 2017
The CEV Spanish championship continued on the circuit in Albacete on 30 September and 1 October 2017, where Czech driver Ondřej Vostatek was highly successful in the Pre-moto3 category. Together with his new team, he successfully won the first championship points when he finished eighth in the thrilling battle for sixth place.

Ondřej Vostatek had only a one-day test in Valencia on the new motorcycle, but already during the training on Thursday, it was clear that the change of team and mainly motorcycle was the correct choice. Ondřej ranked among the fastest drivers in his category on both training days. In the first qualification on Saturday, he took ninth place and even improved his time by 0.8 seconds in the second qualification. He ranked eighth overall with a loss of 0.65 seconds on the pole position and left the drivers of world teams like Aspar Team, Ajo Akademy and Estrella Gallicia behind him.

Ondřej started the race very well in third position, but lost a few positions coming into the first curve that an entire "cluster" of drivers entered together. After which he started attacking and gradually battled his way forward. He was capable of overtaking drivers who he could earlier not catch up with even in the slip stream and was capable of attacking and overtaking on all curves. Two rounds to the end of the race, he even got to sixth place for which he battled with two other drivers. In the end he got a lead of 1.5 seconds. Unfortunately, Ondřej braked too much in the last but one curve and his motorcycle slightly lifted and went on the front wheel. He ran off the ideal track and lost his lead. His adversaries utilised this error and overtook him from the slip stream on the final straight, pushing him to eighth place. In spite of this, Ondřej had an excellent result and proved to both the new team and the competitors that he has the necessary quality and speed, which he is capable of utilising if he has the same good material used by the elite of Spain.

After the races, Jan Vostatek said:

"It is great encouragement for us after the previous problems when we were incapable of winning even a single point. We confirmed that we were right and made the correct decision. This result is a big motivation for us. Ondřej was 0.4 seconds from the best round and I think that if he had not lost his position and contact with the first group in the first curve, his result could even have been better. We still have one more race in Jerez, so we are already looking forward to it very much and we hope that we shall also get a nice result there."

Ondřej Vostatek said:

"It was quite an absolutely amazing, excellent race. It is a pity that I failed to hold sixth place, but I am back in the top ten. For this reason, I would like to thank the Igax Team very much for perfect work and I am looking forward to further co-operation. Thanks guys!"

"We can now focus on the next race in the junior world championship FIM CEV Repsol, which shall take place during the coming weekend in Aragon and where we are continuing co-operation with the initial ETG Racing team. So keep your fingers crossed," Jan Vostatek added at the end.
